What a weekend

It was classy on one that I will remember for a while!

On Thursday, Dr. Petrick took us out for dinner to the Leela Palace, one of the nicest and fanciest hotels in the whole world.  Well, needless to say, I felt like royalty there. Just walking down the almost entirely marble hallways was spectacular! And the food, well the food was absolutely amazing, and the selection was more than I could have expected.  I was very happy with the wide selection of seafood, especially the squid stuffed with tuna and fresh basil.  I can’t even begin to go on about the rest of the food, there was just so much.  And then there was the desert, well, I don’t want to make you too jealous. So, I will just say it was breathtaking.  Really it was!  By the time I finished my dinner, I was having trouble breathing from how much I ate.  But, it was well worth it.  I didn’t eat lunch the next day; and dinner, I only had a few bites.  So, I think it all equaled out.  I would like to give a big Thank You to Dr. Petrick for taking us out to dinner to a wonderful place and for having a good time with us.

We had been trying to plan a trip to Mysore for this past weekend, and instead of booking a car and driver though Honeywell, we wanted to have an adventure and go on a bus.  Not a bad idea, also, a lot cheaper too! Well, when we went the first time on Wednesday, we still didn’t know how many people were going, so we could only check prices… The guy there said we would be fine to come back the next day and buy the tickets for Saturday.  Well, when we came back the next day, tickets were all sold out for the weekend! Doh!  We are stuck in the city for the weekend.  It’s not too bad, there is still stuff for us to do, but I want to make the best of all of our weekends here.

After we found out that we were not going anywhere for the weekend, we looked for stuff to do in the city.  We found a really nice place to go to for the night, Amnesia.  It was the pool-side lounge in one of the many new hotels in Bangalore.  It turns out it was one of the more popular places in the city and we were lucky to have even gotten in!  It was a nice relaxing night, oh and the guy that we went with drives a Ferrari! I think that may have had something to do with how warmly we were received there and the attention that we were paid.  No, I did not get to drive the car, yet.  But, we were promised a ride, so hopefully it is coming.

For the past few days, I have been trying to change my plane ticket home.  I want to stop in France and visit some friends and family for two weeks.  I mean, why not?  It’s a great time since I’ll be flying over France on my way home anyway. So, let’s just delay my plane ticket.  Well, I called American Express Business Travel at Honeywell, and I asked how much it would cost to delay my ticket out of Frankfurt, $4400! What?!? That’s ridiculous!  And then I still needed to get myself to and from Frankfurt to Paris both ways! So, I tried a different approach – fly to Paris, and then get a ticket home direct from Paris – $3200! I don’t know why this is cheaper, but it is.  This is costly I thought.  So, one final try is to cancel my ticket from Frankfurt to Philadelphia, and then find my own way home.  Surprisingly, this is the best option.  I found a ticket on British Airways from Paris home for $900. I like that price a lot better - I can almost afford that.  Well, I am still waiting on the travel department to get back to me to see if I can cancel the last leg of my flight home.  The problem here is that it’s really only a connection flight in the middle of a single flight.  So, they would need to make sure that my luggage can get off the plane, and that I am not in breach of contract by cancelling the connection.  I never thought that there would be this much trouble, and that I could just miss my flight.  But, the lady at the travel department advised against that because my passport could possibly be flagged for suspicious activity.  That is the last thing I need, so I will follow the yellow tape and do it all the right way.  Wish me luck!
